Jordan Ester holiday

Day 1 :QueenAliaInternationalAirport-Amman– Jebel Al Qala’a – Al Balad  -Amman

Welcome toJordan!

You will be met by a member of our team to assist you in the transition intoJordan. After going through customs we will drive you toAmmanto your hotel where you can rest from the travels of the day. Depending upon your arrival time, you may spend the day taking a tour ofJordan’s capital city.

Depend on your flight, we will visit theNationalFolkloreMuseumand theArchaeologicalMuseum, which boasts an excellent collection of antiquities ranging from prehistoric times to the 15th century, including an exhibit of the Dead Sea Scrolls and four Iron Age anthropomorphic coffins.

Day 2:Amman – Jerash – Umm Qais (Gadara) –Amman

After breakfast we will take a tour of Jerash (Gerasa of antiquity), located 48 kilometers north ofAmman. Jerash has been dubbed the “Pompeiiof the East” due to it being one of the world’s largest and most well-preserved sites of Roman architecture outside ofItaly. The colonnaded streets, baths, theatres, plazas, and arches remain in exceptional condition and make this city an extremely fascinating place to visit.  We will travel on to visit Umm Qais, which was one of the most brilliant ancient Hellenistic-Roman cities of theDecapolis. CalledGadarain the bible, this was the spot where Jesus cast out the devil from demoniacs (mad men) into a herd of pigs. Umm Qais is on a broad promontory 378 meters above sea level which enjoys a magnificent view over the Golan Heights,LakeTiberius(Sea of Galilee) and Jebel al Sheikh in bothLebanonandSyria. On return toAmman, our evening will be free to wander through the many lively and colorful bazaars ofJordan’s capital city.

Day 3:After breakfast we will drive to theDead Seawhere we will spend a few hours floating in the healing mineral waters and take a recuperative mud treatment. Visitors to theDead Seahave an unforgettable experience as the high density of the water makes sinking virtually impossible.   Next, we will head toMountNebo. It was here, on the edge of a ridge overlooking the Dead Sea, that Moses first caught sight of theHoly Land, having led his people from Sinai. It is said that Moses also died and was buried here. The West Bank city ofJerichois usually visible from the summit ofMountNebo, as isJerusalemon a very clear day.   Our next stop is Madaba, a Christian town which has many superb mosaics. We will view the most famous mosaic which is housed at the contemporary Greek Orthodox Church of St. George and depicts theHoly Land. This is a wonderfully vivid 6th Century mosaic map, comprised of two million pieces of colored stones showing the entire region fromJordantoPalestinein the north andEgyptin the south. It is fun to spend a while picking out the various cities and admiring the little vignettes the artist incorporated into the map. We will have dinner and overnight in Madaba.

Day 4 :We will drive south along the Kings’ Highway to the ancient lost city ofPetra, visitingShobakCastlealong the way. The King’s Highway is the road of Moses. During the time of the Exodus, Moses used this road to bring the Israelites to theHoly Land. The people ofIsraelcrossed theRed Seainto Aqaba and walked in the wilderness (from Aqaba to Madaba) for forty years. It is the road of ancient trade routes of the Nebataean Empire connecting the East to the Western world. See the many red mountains and green valleys of this beautiful country. From the Red Sea in Aqaba, the red sands of Wadi Rum, and the Rose Red City of Petra, to the Crusader Castle of Karak, and the big city ofAmman, the King’s Highway can show it all to you. It is the path of no time for it has been used by many of the past and many more to come.We will stop atShobakCastle, also known as Mont Royal (Montreal) Castle, on the eastern side of the Araba, perched on the side of a rocky conical mountain, looking out over the fruit trees below. The ruins, called Shobak or Shawbak in Arabic, are located in the modern town ofShobakinJordan. The castle was built in 1115 by Baldwin I ofJerusalemduring his expedition to the area (during which he captured Aqaba on theRed Seain 1116). It was strategically located on a hill on the plain of Edom, along the pilgrimage and caravan routes fromSyriatoArabia. This allowedBaldwinto control the commerce of the area, as pilgrims and merchants needed permission to travel past it. It was surrounded by relatively fertile land, and two cisterns were carved into the hill, with a long steep staircase leading to springs within the hill itself.  Arriving toPetrawe will go to your Hotel.

Day 5:Petra- full day visit

Petrais a treasure of the ancient world and definitely a highlight of any trip toJordan. It is hidden behind an almost impenetrable barrier of rugged mountains and boasts incomparable scenes making it perhaps the most majestic and imposing ancient site still standing today.

It is the legacy of the Nabataeans, an industrious Arab people who settled in southernJordanmore than 2,000 years ago and who carved their new capital out of the rose-redSharahMountains. The site contains refined culture, massive architecture and an ingenious complex of dams and water channels. For our first hours inPetrawe will have an English speaking guide who will introduce you to the numerous highlights of this remarkable site, including the Treasury (El-Khazneh) which has an intricately carved façade that glows in the sun, theRomanTheatreand the Royal Tombs. For the remainder of the day you will be able to wander at your leisure through this amazing ancient wonder. The sheer size of the city and quality of the beautifully carved facades at Petra is staggering, almost overwhelming and there are over 800 individual monuments in total, including buildings, tombs, baths, funerary halls, temples, gateways, and colonnaded streets to admire. At the end of the day you will walk back past the bazaars where you will have an opportunity to find a souvenir or gift to accompany your treasured memories. We will drive to a hotel inPetrafor our dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 6:Petra – Wadi Rum

After breakfast at your hotel in Petra, we will take the scenic King’s Way highway drive to Wadi Rum. There we enjoy a Jeep Safari surrounded by enchanting pink and white desert sands.  Travel in Wadi Rum is a journey to another world. In this immense space, man is dwarfed into insignificance.

Vast, silent and timeless, Wadi Rum possesses one of the most beautiful desert escapes in the world. Rock carvings mark the passage of ancient tribes in pre-history. Thamudic inscriptions, burial mounds, ancient megaliths, and ruined buildings abound. Nabataean rock carved stairways, dams, and temples can still be found throughout the area. Wadi Rum is perhaps best known because of its connection with Lawrence of Arabia and we follow in the enigmatic British officer’s footsteps as we drive through the surreal moonscape. Then you will  stay overnight in a camping site

Day 7 After breakfast   we will visit Aqaba on the Red Sea,Jordan’s only seaport city. This is a great place to relax with a drink on the beach, or if you are feeling more active perhaps some snorkeling or diving in the unbelievably clear water to see the myriad coral reefs and colorful fish up close and personal. Early evening we will drive to our hotel in Amman on the Desert Highway in time for our evening meal.

Day 8Amman -Queen Alia International Airport

After breakfast we will transfer you to Queen Alia International Air port in time for your flight check-in
