Choosing the best time to visit Petra can make a huge difference in your experience.
The ideal months are March–May and September–November. During these seasons, the weather is mild, hiking is comfortable, and lighting is perfect for photography. Spring also brings greenery and wildflowers to the surrounding valleys.
Summer (June–August) can be very hot, especially midday, but early morning visits are still rewarding. Winter (December–February) is quieter, though temperatures can be cold and rain may limit hiking.
Travel tip:
Enter Petra as early as possible to avoid crowds and enjoy cooler temperatures—especially if you plan to hike to the Monastery.
