Day 1: Alia International Airport – Amman
Our representative will meet you at the airport and assist you through the visa and customs process before taking you to your hotel in Amman.
Day 2: Amman – Jerash – Ajloun – Amman
After breakfast, we drive north to visit Jerash, one of the best-preserved Roman towns outside Italy. You’ll have time to stroll around the many colonnaded streets, plazas, baths, theaters, and arches of the city known as the “Pompeii of the East.” We will then head to Ajloun, where we will explore the 12th-century Saracen Castle built by one of Saladin’s lieutenants and used in the military campaign against the Crusaders. We go back to Amman for the night
Day 3: Qasr al-Mushatta – Qusayr Amra – Qasr al-Azraq – Amman city tour
Today we will tour the Desert Castles east of Amman. The Desert Castles date from the beginnings of Islamic-Arab civilization. These seemingly isolated pavilions, caravan stations, baths, and hunting lodges were at one time integrated agricultural or trading complexes, built mostly under the Umayyads (661-750 AD), and include some of the most spectacular and original examples of early Islamic art. In the afternoon, we are back in Amman for a tour of the ancient city centre. We will visit the Citadel, with its remains of the Umayyad Palace, the Temple of Hercules and an excellent Archaeological Museum. Downtown we wander round the 2nd-century Roman Theatre, traditional souks, and Jebel Amman with its 19th-century houses. We stay overnight in the hotel.
Day 4: Amman – Madaba – mount Nebo – wadi iben hammad – Kerak Castle
After breakfast, we transfer to Madaba to see the famous Byzantine mosaic map of the Holy Land. Next stop is Mount Nebo, where like Moses you will be able to overlook the Holy Land and the Dead Sea and, if the sky is clear. Jerusalem, Jericho and Bethlehem. Next, we drive to beautiful Wadi Ibn Hammad, lush with palm trees, reeds and maidenhair ferns.
Moving forward, the sides of the wadi closed in and we were in a narrow winding sandstone gorge, filled with the running stream and curtained from both sides with dense vegetations mainly of moss and maidenhair fern kept fresh and green by dripping water. Twenty minutes later we arrived at a waterfall gushing down from the cliffs on the right side. Its spring water was crystal clear and pleasantly cool. A quick head and face shower helped put us in the mood for what yet to come.
In the afternoon, we drive to Kerak Castle, where Saladin and Richard Lionheart fought during the Second Crusade. We stay here overnight in a guest house.
Day 5: Kerak – Dana – Shoubak
We will explore the maze-like passageways of Kerak Castle before heading to Dana Wildlife Reserve to enjoy the natural beauty of the wooded highlands, rocky slopes and sand dunes, and its vast array of rare plants and animals. We then continue to Shoubak to visit the Crusader castle of Montreal built by King Baldwin I c.1115 to guard the road from Damascus to Egypt. Finally, we will go to a family campsite for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 6: Shoubak – Wadi Gweir – Petra
In the morning, we depart for Wadi Gweir and a one-hour drive by jeep to Mansura, where we will start walking through beautiful plains and mountains. We follow a stream, so you will get wet feet and in spring it is possible that you have to swim for a few meters. You’ll see stunning views, subtropical oases, hanging gardens of ferns and palms and beautiful dark green mountains. At the end of the wadi our team will pick you by jeep andtake you by a scenic road to Petra, where we will stay the night.
Day 7: Petra: Monastery, city centre, Treasury, Siq
After breakfast, we will hike a back way to the Monastery of Petra, then down to explore monuments of the rose-red city: the spectacular Treasury, Royal Tombs, burial chambers and High Place of Sacrifice, ending at the Siq. We will camp the night camping inside Petra and have a Bedouin dinner.
Day 8: Petra: Snake Monument and Jebel Haroun
In the morning, we hike from from our camp at the Snake Monument, to Jebel Haroun, the tomb of prophet Aaron, and enjoy the panoramic views of Petra and Wadi Araba, then hike back to the camp at the Snake Monument.
Day 9: Petra –Wadi Rum
You will have time in the morning to further explore Petra on our way out of the site. We will then drive along the King’s Highway to Wadi Rum in time to enjoy the sunset and transfer to a private Bedouin camp. The camp has all facilities, including bedding in small private tents and European-style bathrooms with hot showers and flush toilets.
Day 10: Wadi Rum
Today we explore the desert of Wadi Rum in a full-day jeep safari visiting the Seven Pillars of Wisdom described by Lawrence of Arabia, Lawrence Spring and inscriptions made by the Thamudic and Nabatean people centuries ago. We will see Khazal Canyon, the Little Stone Bridge, which you can climb, and some sand dunes, Umm Fruth Bridge, the house where Lawrence of Arabia lived, Burdah Rock Bridge and Barrah Canyon. Finally, we return to the desert camp for the night.
Day 11: Wadi Rum – Aqaba
In the morning we head down to Aqaba, where you will have a free day to shop in the bazaars or enjoy a dive in the Red Sea. Take a ride on a glass-bottomed boat, savour the Arabic coffee in a café, or get a massage at a beach resort.
Day 12: Aqaba – Dead Sea
In the morning, we travel via Wadi Araba to the Dead Sea. After checking in to our hotel, spend the day floating in the salty waters and enjoying mineral mud treatments.
Day 13: Dead Sea –Amman airport
We will drive you to the airport to catch your flight, whenever it may be.
