Itinerary
Our representative meet you at Queen Alia Airport, assist you through customs, and take you to your hotel in Amman.
After breakfast, we guide you around Amman's ancient city: the Citadel, Roman Theatre and the Museum before heading north to Jerash, the Pompeii of the East. We will enter Jerash through the monumental South Gate and wander through the colonnaded Oval Plaza, the Roman theatre, Byzantine churches with mosaic-covered floors, Jerash' main road, the Cardio, and the Nymphaeum. Next, we head to Ajloun, a castle used by Saladin to protect the region against the Crusaders. Around sunset we return to Amman for dinner.
In Madaba, the city of mosaics, we will visit the 6th-century mosaic map of the Holy Land housed in the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George, before driving up to Mount Nebo, from where Moses overlooked the Holy Land leading his people from Sinai. It is said that he also died and was buried here. Next stop is a swim in the Dead Sea some 400 meters below sea level. Due to the high density of the water, you can float easily: an unforgettable experience. We will spend a few relaxing hours floating in the mineral-rich water and perhaps enjoying one of the famous therapeutic black mud massages. After lunch, we will head down to the rock-carved city of Petra, where we will stay overnight.
Petra, one of the new seven wonders of the world, is an archaeological treasure and a highlight of any trip to Jordan. It is the legacy of the Nabataeans, an industrious Arab people who settled in southern Jordan more than 2,000 years ago and carved their new capital out of the rose-red Sharah Mountains. The site evinces a refined culture, massive architecture and an ingenious complex of dams and water channels. For our first few hours in Petra we will have an English-speaking guide who will introduce us to the main monuments, including the Treasury (Al Khazneh), the Amphitheater, and the Royal Tombs. Afterwards, you can discover the various buildings, tombs, baths, temples and gateways at your own pace. In the evening, we return to the hotel in Petra.
In the morning, we will transfer to Wadi Rum. This is a stupendous, timeless place, virtually untouched by humanity, where the weather and winds have carved the towering skyscrapers of rock so elegantly described by T. E. Lawrence as "vast, echoing and God-like." We will explore by jeep for 4 hours, visiting Nabataean inscriptions, Lawrence's Cave and the Rock Bridge. After lunch in Wadi Rum, we'll enjoy the beautiful sand dunes and sunset, returning to Amman in the evening.
After breakfast we will transfer you to Queen Alia International Airport in time for your flight check-in.
